The Federation of United States Teachers and
Adjudicators (FUSTA) was established in 1980 to promote Scottish Highland
Dancing and culture in the United States and to provide a "community" system
for teachers and judges of Highland dancing. FUSTA spearheads the United
States Inter-Regional Championships (USIR) held annually. This championship
rotates among the 6 geographic regions which encompass all 50 states: East,
Midwest, Northwest, Southeast, Southwest, and West. The Midwest region is
proud to present the 2010 USIR in Traverse City, Michigan, August 11-15.
When
people hear "Michigan" they often think automobiles, Detroit and University
of Michigan. In 2010 the USIR is coming back to Michigan. In 1998 we did the
Motor City thing and everyone had a good time. This time we are taking you
to a part of our state that doesn't get nearly as much recognition, the
northwest part of the lower peninsula. It is an absolutely beautiful area
with rolling hills, huge forests and pristine inland lakes and rivers and of
course the massive sand dunes of Lake Michigan. If you have never
been to one of the great lakes it is difficult to understand just how large
they are. For all intents and purposes they are fresh water oceans. On
our photos page you will see photos of some of our favorite spots in Northern Michigan that
we wanted to share with you - check out what this beautiful portion of our
region holds in store for you.
The 2010 USIR is being
hosted at the beautiful Grand Traverse Resort in Traverse City, Michigan.
Traverse City is located in the Northwest corner of Michigan's lower
peninsula right on Lake Michigan and the Grand Traverse Bays. The Grand
Traverse Resort and Spa has been named among the top 50 travel destinations
in 2007 by Conde Nast Traveler Magazine. Grand Traverse is considered to be
Michigan's finest and most comprehensive resort experience. Click
here to take a
photo tour of this amazing facility.
Putting on a National event such as this is a
huge financial undertaking. None of us would be here without our wonderful
sponsors. Thank-you to everyone for your support of the USIR 2010 and
Highland Dancing in the United States. Click here
to view our sponsors.
In order to pull off an event of this magnitude,
we need an army of volunteers on-site to help keep everything running
smoothly and efficiently If you are going to be attending the USIR 2010
Weekend of Dance and are interested in donating your time and talents to
help us out - please download and fill out the
Volunteer
Registration Form and send to Katie Goodell-McClintic. Thanks for
helping us put on the USIR 2010!
Below you will find photos of past USIR events
and highland dancers from across the country. Highland dancing is truly a
beautiful art form that takes strength, poise, agility, power and precision.
Do you have a photo of a past USIR that you would like to see right here on the homepage of the USIR 2010 website? Then
submit it to the webmaster and you could see your photo here!
All submitted photos will become
property of the USIR 2010 and may be used on the website or in other
promotional materials.
